Irene Beddies

Whenever I wanted...

Whenever I wanted...

Whenever I wanted to give my life away

because of too much love, too much despair
an inner voice stood up to say
„Look round you closely, breathe fresh air!“

Always when opening my mind
I found a tiny thing worth to live on.
I frowned why I had been so blind
to think that life’s joy all had gone.

There was some left, a tiny glee
in just a raindrop running down the windowpane,
a tumbling butterfly, a honey gathering bee,
a story in some book - that made me sane.
