Fall
Fall paints the leaves
purple, yellow and brown.
The woods are aflame.
The glow to tame
soft rain drops down.
Earlier come the eves.
The brambles gleam blue,
red the hips among their thorns
the birds to board.
Squirrels come to hoard
fallen nuts and acorns
after the wind blew.
Overladen are the trees
with apple and pear
for men to pluck.
With good luck
we can bear
this richness in peace.
