Irene Beddies

Winter came back
for a last attack
storming with snow and hail
along the dale.
The trees bend low
shaking the snow
down to their roots
to ease the young shoots.
Anemones around
covering the ground
close their blooms between
the fragile green.
Only the birds don’t bother,
they mate with each other
as they did of old
not caring about the cold.
