Oliver Zajac

California 1969

that’s California in sixty-nine,
there’s no better place for the sun to shine
on girls wearing flowers and crazy earrings,
on boys with guitars, without dollars –
but flower power starts disappearing
when LSD comes up with better colors

when Charles Manson, waiting with patience
for those who lost their orientation,
will use them to murder some celebrities
until the day he’ll finally be found –
we see California is not just peace,
there is horror growing in its underground

San Francisco, the city of joy
also brought forces able to destroy,
which take advantage of people and their time
just like these drugs and Manson have shown –
and even three years before sixty-nine
they built Satan himself a church of his own!
