Uwe Stender

State of Emergency

Last night the world came crashing down on me,
my brain-- it cracked from side to side,
I locked my door and threw away the key:
no strength to run, no place to hide.

With the lows growing higher
and the highs staying low
itīs the curse of desire
expectations die slow.

Never a transitional flirt,
captivated with fervid thrills,
my lesson in life: all hours hurt;
and the final one kills.
