HOARDING PEARLS
... for, whether dumbfounded or dazzled, we tend to hoard moments like pure gleams,
like living pearls;
yet clutching this discovery to the chest, taking it deep within and holding it fast—will it save us from anything? Will it truly avail us...?
one traverses the path seeking a light to offer, a radiance, something divine with which to hold the hours upright—
those phases of terror, horror, and darkness;
… if only the healer of wounds and the builder of sounds would pass this way—and often—
ah, upon what pulse might we then create a spark of flame for our being,
a channel of emotion,
of life,
or simply hands to soothe this so physical and dramatic experience of time;
… it is hard to discern, and almost everything is squandered, wrapped in refuse, and cast into the bin;
so, can we redeem some moment-as-pearl, some moment-as-guiding-star,
some throbbing hope
or light?
drums resound across the highlands, and 2012 marches in circles along endless paths,
yet with the steady, balanced ardor of one who already knows the rhythm to bind their hours, days, and months
to other future eras—lucid, fearless, and beautiful;
… upon the ground, fallen, every atavism breaks and rots, oozes and vanishes;
and below and above, amidst the air and facing the air—like a mighty, powerful warrior—the spirit stands,
listening to and modernizing souls with which, once again, it shall fight and win the war.
