Klaus Meier

Those who live in shadows

Word travels fast from tongue to tongue,
yet this world stays foolish, deaf, and young.
It’s far too quick to trust a lie,
to sleep through promises drifting by.

No peace remains in the upper town,
many scream while hope breaks down.
Hunger grows too hard to bear,
while empty vows dissolve in air.

No one cares for grief or cries;
“Too much to lose” no longer applies.
It feeds no mouths, it calms no pain,
so rage and hatred rise again.

The cheaters profit from deceit,
using the common good for their own feast.
Only when inequality ends its reign
may fortune finally turn again.
