The Ice Prince

In a kingdom far, far away, there was a beautiful river surrounded by deep forests and a huge mountain that stood on the horizon. Nobody knew what was on the other side of those icy mountains. The few people who had ever gone there never came back. So every day, the king warned his children:
"Never go too deep into these forests."
But Prince Tamlin, Princess Talia's younger brother, was curious and easily distracted. Every day, the two roamed the forest. Today was no different, and his gaze kept falling on the imposing mountain. Then, when Talia lost sight of him for a moment, he suddenly disappeared. She was worried, so she called his name and looked everywhere. But there was no sign of him — except for small footprints in the snow at the edge of the forest. The path went straight up the mountain. She felt worried and quickly ran back to her parents. The king and queen were very scared. They quickly got together a group of knights and volunteers to look for Tamlin.

When Talia wanted to join the search, the king put his hands on her upper arms and looked her in the eyes. "No, I won't lose you too!" he said, his voice shaking. He locked her in her room. But Talia was determined. Her brother needed her and no one knew the forest as well as she did. That night, when everyone was asleep, the princess crept out of bed, climbed down the old ivy and disappeared into the woods. After a while, the path took her to the bottom of the mountain. This was the start of her long journey, which involved three tests.

The First Test – The Fog of Doubt
A thick, silver fog covered her. Small voices said quietly:
"You will fail... Turn back..."
But Talia took a deep breath and thought hard: "I am doing this for my brother. I promised I would always take care of him."
"You are too weak... Turn back..."
Talia closed her eyes and bit down hard on a tooth: "I will not go back and leave my brother."
"You're too late... Turn back..."
Talia could feel herself close to tears: "Tamlin is alive, I know it."
With her heart beating quickly, she carried on, and finally she could see again.

The Second Test – The Path of Silence
The snow made every sound quiet. Then, a huge wolf made of ice appeared in front of her. Its breath made the ground freeze. Talia was scared, but she felt that it wasn't looking for a fight. Instead of running away, she bent down to show respect and said calmly, "I have come to save my brother. Please let me pass, I mean you no harm." The wolf looked at her, lowered its head, and turned into sparkling snowflakes.

The Third Test – The Mystery of the Wind
A storm with icy winds blocked the last path. It was so strong that it broke up rocks and threw them down into the valley. But Talia held on to the narrow path, crouching under a ledge, and slowly made her way forward. A voice in the wind spoke:
"Only those who listen carefully will find the right path."
Talia closed her eyes, listened, and heard a quiet whisper – a warm breath between the cold gusts of wind. She put her foot there and found a hidden passage through the storm. At the end of the path, she found a gate made of ice.

Behind the gate stood a castle made of white stone. In the palace, Talia saw statues made of ice, including her brother Tamlin. He looked very scared. She made her way to the throne room. There, a young man wrapped in a white cloak sat on a white throne. Two bright blue eyes, like two stars in the sky, met her gaze. "Who are you?" she asked gently. The prince looked down.
"My name is Helios. I am the ruler of this kingdom of ice."

"My name is Princess Talia. I have come to free my brother. Why did you do this to him and all the other people? They didn't mean any harm!" Her voice could be heard throughout the castle.
"Whatever gets close to my castle, the same thing happens to it... it's like a curse that I can't escape." Talia could see that he was very sad and realised that he was not a monster. Then Helios took her to a pedestal with a crystal vessel on it. Inside it was a red rose, as if it was sleeping. "Only those who make this rose bloom can break the curse. But no one has succeeded yet." Talia moved closer. At first, nothing happened. But then she gently put her hand on the crystal vessel, and immediately a warm light began to shine through her fingers. The rose finally opened its petals, brighter and redder than any fire. A warm wind blew through the castle. The ice began to melt, and the frozen people slowly came back to life, their skin glistening like diamonds. Tamlin fell into his sister's arms. "Talia! I knew you would find me!" The glow that used to come from Helios had gone. In its place was a warm, vibrant colour. His heart was no longer cold and the kingdom had been transformed: snow had given way to meadows full of flowers and ice glistened like crystalline lakes in the sunshine. Helios looked at Talia. "You have finally freed my land from snow and ice... thank you." Talia smiled. "Sometimes a little courage and a warm heart are enough." Helios took her hand and at that moment, they both knew that this was just the start of a new story – their story together. The king and Helios decided to team up to make their two kingdoms stronger and they lived happily ever after.
