Irene Beddies

June

June

Midges are playing in the air
up and down in their dance.
A dragonfly shoots along by chance
in steel and emerald glare.

Grass and flowers sway in the fields:
they seem like a sea of silvery green
dotted with yellow and aquamarine.
Summer his sceptre wields.

Hidden, the birds already have sung
since long their praise and tune.
Now they chase after the bugs of June
and flies to feed their young.

Veiled is the sky by the heat of the day,
dreamily whisper the leaves some old
tales of dwarfs guarding their gold
and of dancing elves on their way.
