A Gourmet’s Journey
 
 
Salmon in Scotland
fried  or smoked,
herring in Holland
in salt pickles soaked,
Fish’n Chips near Hyde Park
fresh from the stall,
fried plaice in Denmark,
and near a waterfall
small trout in southern France
he approvingly enjoyed.
He didn’t omit this chance.
 
To know the local dish
each country provides of fish
he also tasted
octopus in a harbour in Greece
somewhat tough and knotty,
rich Bouillabaise in Nice
and cuttlefish on Lanzarote,
Paella with shrimps in Spain,
sardines in Italy,
and on a German train
cod with parsley gravy.
 
Not to forget in these tales:
crabs and lobsters in Wales.
