Under the hood of your mother’s watchful eye
you spend your endless days
roaming the thrilling field of adventures
with heedless joy, if you are a boy.
If you are a girl, you are more careful,
more cautious with all the things you do.
Then home in bed your eyes fall shut,
and in vivid dreams you one more time
let the day pass through, but quite sublime.
Under the hood of childhood
you live a timeless time,
till one day you wake and find
that something has changed your mind,
and your hood has been left behind.
