Rachel Thornton (France)

I am married to a glassblower and we have two children (a boy of 18 and a girl of 22). We live in a very poor part of the South of France, where I design, make and sell jewellery alongside my husband’s glass. Needless to say, this was a stupid career move. While I'm busy not making a living doing that, I also write for an English language online magazine and have a blog. In 2007 I wrote a short history of our town, Lodève, which was published locally and is still sold in the local supermarket... next to the shelf of local jam. This story, Meet and Greet Thy Neighbours - even if you can't love them, is a pretty accurate description of an evening spent with our neighbours.

I come from a family of writers and publishers but avoided catching the writing bug until fairly recently. Now all I want to do is write.

I have just completed my first Y/A speculative fiction work, called Rosendale, and am currently looking for an agent.

Since 2015 I have been heavily involved in the refugee crisis and have delivered aid to camps, collected and sent medical equipment to Syria. I believe my experiences have spurred me on to write about a world where things could be better. I live in perpetual hope.
