Jacob Bergner (Georgia)

My name is Michael Jacob Bergner and I was born in Cobb County GA on July 5, 1987. I went to McEachern High School where I played football for the varsity team. I was a starting running back when I quit my junior year and I've regretted it ever since. I feel like if I would have stayed on the team my life would have went down a different path than the one I'm stuck on today. If I didn't quit I would have stayed in school my junior year instead of skipping all the time and smoking weed and getting in trouble. I failed most of my classes that year so I went to an alternative school where I only passed one class. The next year I went back to McEachern where I had to go to class all day everyday to graduate on time and every one else was leaving early with minimum day. I passed 7 out of 8 classes so I had to take a summer school class to graduate. I took Algebra 3 online and passed with a 93 or an "A" average. I did get a high school diploma but I never played football for a real team again, and I miss it so much. Playing football was the best time in my life even though at the time I didn't really like it. There's nothing else like it. It's like the adrenaline rush u get when u get into a fight or the nervousness u get for competing against an opponent. The drive to out do your competitor and the feeling of accomplishment from scoring a touchdown. Your teammates and coaches become your friends and now your like a family. When I quit it was like someone in your family dying. If I could go back and change only one thing in my life that would be the thing I would change. I would have kept playing football and I would have reached a peek or prime in my football career. I would have most likely went to college and played a little for a college football team, which now seems like an unachievable goal. I encourage anyone raising a son to get him in sports preferably football but whatever the he enjoys. Make sure he plays every year possible and never let him quit. One day he will be thankful and he will have a better life because of it. Thanks for reading and I appreciate your interest in my poem.
