Rolph David

Primadonna assoluta: A Divine Voice Died Away!

A hymn of remembrance to the divine Maria Callas,
who would have celebrated her 100th birthday yesterday.
(Verse 1)
In spheres of sound, where angels tread,
A voice emerged, divinely led.
Maria Callas, prima donna fair,
A hundred years, a tale to share.

(Chorus)
Hail the queen of operatic lore,
A century's gift, forevermore.
Her voice, a present from above,
In Baroque hymns, we soar with love.

(Verse 2)
A tragic tale in notes profound,
Her life, a drama tightly wound.
Love's sweet allure, a moment's trance,
Yet sorrow lingered in each romance.

(Chorus)
Hail the queen of operatic lore,
A century's gift, forevermore.
Her voice, a present from above,
In Baroque hymns, we soar with love.

(Bridge)
Lonely nights in Paris' glow,
Where love's illusions cease to grow.
Amidst the boulevards, she wept,
A prima donna, love's secrets kept.

(Verse 3)
Adorned in jewels, her spirit worn,
A lonely queen in love forlorn.
Men of stature sought her gaze,
Yet love eluded in life's cruel maze.

(Chorus)
Hail the queen of operatic lore,
A century's gift, forevermore.
Her voice, a present from above,
In Baroque hymns, we soar with love.

(Verse 4)
In echoes deep, her voice remains,
A legacy of joys and pains.
Parisian streets, a final scene,
Where solitude and memories convene.

(Chorus)
Hail the queen of operatic lore,
A century's gift, forevermore.
Her voice, a present from above,
In Baroque hymns, we soar with love.

(Outro)
Maria Callas, in heaven's hold,
A timeless song, a story told.
In Baroque hymns, we raise our voice,
To honour her, let hearts rejoice.
